Still Alive

So, hey folks. I have kinda let this site sit on a back burner for awhile. Don’t think that I’ve forgotten about it! I’m thinking about it almost every day (“Man, I really need to update my site” “Oh, that’ll be good for a blog entry” etc.) I just haven’t done anything about it. Lazy, I know.

Part of the problem is that when I started this site my apartment was a complete disaster, if you recall, and now it’s just a mild disaster. A mild disaster some of the time and not all of the time. So I feel like I lost a major topic to talk about. I mean, I could just keep talking about how I actually do my chores and the mess that is around is just general clutter because I don’t have enough storage space. Don’t you think that would get old though? I do. I get bored just thinking about it.

So, I’ve been thinking of other subjects to talk about here. I didn’t start this blog just to talk about how messy I am. That’s just a by product of the main subject, my laziness. So, I want to start focusing on the other areas I’m lazy about and work on those more.

I’ve been into micromanaging my time, in theory, lately so I’ll give you a run down of my typical week:

Here's a snap shot of a week in my planner (sorry for the crap quality, I took this pic with my phone because I forgot to take one with a real camera for this post)

Monday: work; come home; take out the trash and clean the litter box; sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Tuesday: work; come home; do the dishes…maybe; sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Wednesday: work; come home; do laundry or go to my brother’s for dinner; if I don’t go to Sammy’s, sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Thursday: work; come home; do laundry or go to my brother’s for dinner; take out trash if it’s full; clean out litter box; if I don’t go to Sammy’s, sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Friday: work; come home; sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Saturday: sleep late; run errands if I have any; sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Sunday: sleep late; clean up around the apartment; sit around and either-play computer games; read a book; watch something on Netflix

Ok, so when I’m micromanaging, I don’t actually write down that part that you are seeing on Every. Single. Day. That’s just me being honest about how I spend my time.

Now, what to do about me just sitting around doing nothing? Well, I have a plan. Each month, I’m going to change one aspect of my life. Nothing huge. Small changes, and I will document the progress here. So, instead of a Monday focus about what I want to do that week in general, I’ll update you on the current change.

I’ve lost just over a week in April already, but that’s not going to stop me from using this month. Look for a post later today about April’s Focus.

Hope you all haven’t forgotten about me!

Focus

On Mondays, I like to set out some goals for the week. This helps me stay focused and feel a little less overwhelmed. However, I don’t beat myself up if I don’t accomplish all I set out to do. I’m only human. A very lazy human.

Ok, last week I kinda feel off the face of the blog-iverse. I just didn’t have it in me to sit down and write anything. I got in serious lazy mode. I’m going to try to make up for it this week.
This week I’ve decided it’s time to implement a small weekly chore routine. I’m not starting out big, just small tasks to keep me inline. So here’s the plan:
  1. Monday: Trash duty. Tuesday is pick up day, so Monday evening I want to just go through out the apartment and pick up trash I’ve left around and also empty out the bins into the garbage can. Then, take the garbage to the curb.
  2. Tuesday: Dishes. I’m only one person…one person who happens to own a TON of dishes. So I can get away with not doing them every day. It’s gross, I know, but I’m trying. So on Tuesday night, I will do whatever dishes I’ve let accumulate up till that point.
  3. Wednesday: Litter box and laundry. I know I should probably clean out Mr. Tom’s box-o-poo more than once a week, but I kinda forget about it till the smell hits me. So once  a week is actually an improvement. Like my dishes, I also have a ton of clothes. Back before I had my own washer and dryer, I was only able to do laundry once a week when it was convenient for my big brother. I’ve gotten in the habit of doing it on Wednesdays since that was pretty much when I’d go over there do it.
  4. Thursday: Dishes and trash, again. I may have a ton of dishes, but I am trying to be less gross here. Friday is my other garbage day, so I will repeat the Monday night routine here.
  5. Friday: Pick-up. Ok, so I know that is kinda vague, but I didn’t know how else to describe it. I just want to pick up the general mess I cause throughout the week. Put away clothes I’ve just thrown around. Put all my shoes away. That kinda stuff.
  6. Saturday: nothing. The past few weeks, I’ve had plans to run errands and do stuff on the weekends. Saturdays always end up being days where I just laze about in my pjs, though. I figure I need a day of rest, so I’m giving myself one.
  7. Sunday: A bunch of stuff. After my day of rest, and with only one day left before the work week starts again, Sundays have become my “get off my ass” days. I’ll do my “major” cleaning on this day, as well as run errands (such as grocery shopping).
Now, when I post my Progress Report on Saturday, I know I won’t be able to account for the Sunday plan, as that day will be in the future. Still, I hope I can manage to do these simple things this week.
Also, I’ve been pretty hit or miss with the spinning class. I made it once last week, but evening obligations through out the week made me too tired to go on Thursday. Here’s hoping I’ll do better this week.
Oh, and so this isn’t all words and no pix, here are some shots of how the ol’ apartment is looking these days:

I spent yesterday picking up the apartment, so those garbage bags are from that activity.

I striped the bed and hadn't put on fresh sheets yet when I took this pic.

The kitchen is a general disaster zone at the moment.

Focus

On Mondays, I like to set out some goals for the week. This helps me stay focused and feel a little less overwhelmed. However, I don’t beat myself up if I don’t accomplish all I set out to do. I’m only human. A very lazy human.

Well, after my major fail last week, I’m taking “go to the gym” off the focus list. I’m still going to try to go, but maybe I’m not going to make it a goal for the week. I think that just made me resent the idea of going even more last week.

So instead I’m going to focus on the mess I created in my apartment this weekend.

Oh dear. I seemed to have created a bit of a mess.

Saturday, like I said in my Progress Report, I went to Target and spent my birthday/xmas gift cards there. I bought two bookcases, some magazine holders and some costume jewelry (figured I’d should spend a little bit of the gift money on something “fun”). When I got home I put together the bookcases then unpacked all my movies and books. I got most of them to fit in the shelves. After that though, I felt so good about finally emptying those boxes that I felt like unpacking my “stuff” boxes.

Actually, my hallway looked this way before I started destroying boxes.

The “stuff” boxes where filled with things that were just around my apartment and didn’t really have a set home (such as “bathroom” or “kitchen”). Once out of the boxes I was left with the dilemma of “what do I do with all this crap now?

So, this week my focus will be on getting my apartment out of this state of chaos. I was hoping to make my goal for this week to finally start working on this schedule for cleaning I created, but I don’t think that’s realistic. I mean, look at this mess:

I had to clean off the bed so I could sleep on it.

Wish me luck.

Focus

On Mondays, I like to set out some goals for the week. This helps me stay focused and feel a little less overwhelmed. However, I don’t beat myself up if I don’t accomplish all I set out to do. I’m only human. A very lazy human.

I’m posting today’s Focus a little late because I got super lazy yesterday and didn’t want to think about what I needed to do this week.

This week though, I’m once again going to try to get back into a regular-ish gym routine. I’m also going to try to tackle the boxes I have left to unpack. Not the ones with movies and books, because what’s the point without shelves; but the other ones that have just random stuff in them. I’m either going to find homes for the stuffs or start a box for the next time my work holds a “garage” sale.

So this is a short and sweet post. Focus: Go to the gym; Unpack some boxes.

Here’s a pic from my weekend so this isn’t all text:

That's right. I play DnD. Don't hate.
