I didn’t cook it: Mona’s and a Crawfish Boil

The last Wednesday of every month, I’m going to share my favorite meal that I didn’t cook with you. I mean, let’s be honest with one another. The laziest form of cooking is to just pay someone to make your food.

This month had a few contenders for the this prestigious honor, and it came down to a three-way tie. BUT I decided to cut one out, because it is a place we go regularly and I want to do it justice with it’s own post one day.

So, first up would be Mr. LL’s birthday dinner, my treat. We went to one of his favorite restaurants (and mine too) Mona’s Cafe. Mona’s is a local chain of Middle Eastern cuisine restaurants, my fave local being in Mid-City. Mr. LL and I like to try out new appetizers (new to us) every time we go, but I think this time we found our favorites. The meat pies and the “cheese pizza” (which is really four amazing cheeses on pita with a TON of herbs and spices). We always get gyros and the Lebanese tea, too. It was delicious as usual!

The other winner was the actual day of Mr. LL’s birthday/Easter Sunday, when we went to his family in Slidell to have a crawfish boil. Before I started seeing Mr. LL, I had never had boiled crawfish or even been to a boil. Now, I look forward to crawfish season every year. Too bad Mr. LL hurt himself that day, but the food was wonderful.

April 2014 Reading Review

These are all part of the Guardian Trilogy. Being such, I will do a more in depth review of the first one and less-so for the other two so as to not give away any plot points and spoilers.

Reading is Sexy | Lazy Lady

Amethyst (Guardian #1) by Heather Bowhay

Amethyst by Heather Bowhay

This is the first book in the series. We are introduced to our narrator, Lexi, as she is starting her post-high school, pre-college life. She and her best friend have moved to the town where they will be attending college before classes start. They have found jobs and are making friends. But Lexi has always been plagued by visions. Visions of horrific accidents that are about to happen. She has tried to ignore them in the past, but she can’t put that on her conscious ever again. Now, she must find a way to hold a job, make new friends, figure out what the guys in this town want from her and try to save the lives of the victims she is increasingly getting visions of.

Lucky for Lexi, there is a strong community of like-gifted people in her new home town. Will they help her, or just give her more questions than answers?

Linked (Guardian #2) by Heather Bowhay

Linked by Heather Bowhay

This is the second book in the series. I’m not going to go into much detail about this one because I don’t want to give away anything. However, I will say that Lexi forms stronger bonds with the magical world around her, but she isn’t quite sure she can trust her new friends just yet. Not with everything.

Reading is Sexy | Lazy Lady

Dentelle (Guardian #3) by Heather Bowhay

Dentelle  by Heather Bowhay

I was hesitant to call these series a “trilogy” because the last book, Dentelle, leaves itself open for more books down the road. However, it does give the reader a nice stopping point as well, in case it truly is the end of the series. I don’t want to give away too much, but I will say this, all three books worked for me. I enjoyed the characters and their growth throughout each book. I never felt overwhelmed by sappy, teenage romance and felt that part had a good balance with the theme of discovering oneself as we transition from child to adult.

The first book, Amethyst, is free for the Kindle and the Kindle app. I enjoyed it so much, I purchased the other books (obviously).

I’m a winner

Winner | Lazy Lady

About a month ago, one of my favorite blogs, Scathingly Brilliant, had a “blogaversary giveaway“.  I entered and guess what? I won! I never win anything. I thought I’d share the awesome prize package that Kate over at Scathingly Brilliant put together. It’s so cute and I love it!

Winner | Lazy Lady

The prize included: a really cute card from Kate, a pizza tote bag (Mr. LL has laid claim to this), purple sunglasses, chocolate chip cookie lip balm, astronaut ice cream, a mermaid salt and pepper shaker set, a little pink bow ring, coconut candy, a mint green hair bow (one of the best hair bows I’ve every had), heart shaped plastic straws, daisy ear bud headphones, hello kitty pens, a pink cat-shaped coin purse, a pink bow-tie with cats on it (super cute) and a pink polka dotted satchel bag.

My favorite items are the satchel and the mermaid salt + pepper shaker set. Mr. LL loves the mermaid too.

Winner | Lazy Lady

Honestly, I absolutely love every single item in the prize pack, and it really makes me want to put together  one for my readers. Someday.

Oh and I forgot that I was wearing my bow ring while I was taking the photos. Lol, I love it that much! Thanks again to Kate at Scathingly Brilliant for an amazing giveaway!

This and that

Yesterday was Mr. LL’s birthday (in addition to being Easter) and so we had a very busy weekend.

I had been planning the whole day of Mr. LL’s birthday for months, only to be thrown a curve ball last minute. Mr. LL’s family was having a crawfish boil on Sunday and wanted us to come. We hadn’t seen them in a good minute, so we knew we had to go. Plus, they wanted to celebrate his birthday, too.

So, I redid my day for Saturday and we still had a good time (I totally pouted for an entire afternoon last week when I had to rework my plans, not gonna lie). I woke him up blaring “The Circle of Life” (The Lion King is one of his favorite movies). I got him out of bed and it was off to breakfast.

Since Mr. LL has been doing side work on the weekends, we haven’t been able to do our unofficial weekend ritual of going to our favorite breakfast joint, Breakfast Club. It’s just a local diner, but we love to go there for breakfast.

We stopped by my mom’s on the way home and she and Karen gave Mr. LL his Easter basket/Birthday gift. Then we went home and I told Mr. LL that he was allowed to do whatever he wanted, including spending the day playing Diablo III (he just got the new expansion a week ago). So, that’s what he did and I just played on the iPad and watched TV.

Oh, but before he got sucked into his game, I gave him my gifts. A new pair of Steve Madden shoes, purple loafers to be exact. When we met he had a pair that have long since been destroyed. He’s been looking for a pair to replace them ever since. And I also gave him a new bottle of Kenneth Cole’s Black cologne.

That evening we went to dinner at Mona’s, one of our favorite restaurants. It was a great day, if I do say so myself, and Mr. LL says so, too.

Sunday, at the crawfish boil, we had a lot of fun with his family. Too much fun, really, as Mr. LL hurt his knee pretty bad while playing baseball in the street. He’s going to be limping for a bit, but we hope it isn’t too serious.

What did you do this weekend?
