Lazy Lady got hitched

1-Misc. Mondays

(All the photos in this post were taken by Maile Lani Photography)

Mr. LL and I had been talking about getting married for a long while before we actually got officially engaged. We always said we wanted to just do the courthouse thing. We never wanted anything other than us and a judge. We talked about having a reception, having a party after the appointment at the courthouse. I had talked about the idea of us getting married on or as close as possible to our first-date anniversary in October.

After my bestie got hitched, Mr. LL got the wedding bug bad. No joke. It seemed like we never stopped talking about weddings, hers or the one we’ve been dreaming about for a while. So, the “official” engagement happened. It wasn’t so much of a proposal event. We just were talking one night and said something along the lines of “let’s make it official”. We’d been looking at rings for a couple of months but just couldn’t afford the prices. Finally, I suggested we use my grandmother’s ring, which was sitting in my jewelry box. There you have it. 🙂

Actually, if I’m remembering correctly, what truly sparked the “official” engagement was something Mr. LL said one night. He and I were sitting on the balcony of our apartment, talking about how lovely Annie’s wedding was and he said to me “I don’t want to wait till October, I want to get married now.”

We then called the courthouse (well, I called the courthouse during a lunch break at work), set up a date, asked off work, and we shopped for clothes. I found the PERFECT dress at Trashy Diva. It was like magic; it was the last one in my size and it was discounted. I contacted a photographer, because although we were eloping, I still wanted photos of the event. I made my own bouquet the night before. And then it was the big day.

After the courthouse, we went to the levee for a little photo shoot. My friend Heather sent me a beautiful picnic basket as a wedding gift. My mom provided our “wedding cake” which was two cupcakes from Haydel’s Bakery. It was a surprise to both of us when we opened the box to discover they were aquatic themed cupcakes. 😀 The champagne was a gift from the owners of the paper I work for.

My cupcake is a jellyfish and Mr. LL’s is a goldfish.

Can you see the cork?

After our photo session, we went back to the apartment and changed clothes. We finished packing and then drove into the city to stay at a very nice hotel just outside the French Quarter (courtesy of the owners of the paper I work at as well). We stayed there for two, rainy and fun nights. We went to the aquarium one day and we walked around a bit as well as spending some time (and money) in the casino nearby.

It was wonderful. The second best day of my life (the first being our first date 😉 ).

I have some photos from our mini-moon, but they are film photos. If I get a chance to scan them, I’ll see about putting them up here.
